Are My Electrics Safe?
Keeping the electrical systems in your home or business safe is essential. The most reliable way to ensure this is by booking an EICR—Electrical Installation Condition Report—carried out by a qualified electrician. In the UK, it’s recommended to have an EICR every 10 years for domestic properties, and every 5 years for rented homes. If you’re planning to sell your property, an EICR gives potential buyers peace of mind. Certain properties, like thatched roof homes or commercial spaces, may require more frequent inspections—sometimes for insurance purposes too.
If it’s been a while since your electrics were last checked, don’t wait. Fill out our quick quote form, and we’ll provide an estimate. It’s a small investment for long-term peace of mind.
What Happens During an EICR?
An EICR includes two main stages: a visual inspection and a series of electrical tests.
Visual Inspection: We examine sockets, switches, lighting, and the consumer unit for signs of wear, damage, or poor workmanship. We also check wiring, earthing, and bonding to ensure your system meets current safety standards.
Electrical Testing: We test circuits to assess insulation resistance, earthing effectiveness, polarity, and RCD (trip switch) response time. These checks help identify hidden faults that could pose safety risks.
